Setting Goals and Objectives Brings Fast
Results For Home Business Startups
You need to be setting goals and objectives; place them in a time
frame of when you want to achieve them and finally, you must measure the outcomes or results.
When you are setting goals and objectives – even if you do not reach them, it is something to aim for. But it
does not matter how many goals you set, if you cannot (or do not) measure the outcomes/results, then you will never
really know where your business is going (or where it has been).
You must aim to complete your goal within a specific timeframe - otherwise it could seem as though it will never
be achieved. If within that time frame you do not reach your goal - then consider breaking it down into bite sized
goals so that you can see ‘light at the end of the tunnel’.
When you are constantly thinking up and delivering new marketing strategies, you need to keep a track of your
goals so that you know which ones are worth repeating. But whatever your goals are for (marketing or even personal)
keeping track of them means that you are organised and determined to make them come to fruition.
Often when we are setting goals and objectives, we aim too high. Be realistic and if you still don’t reach your
goals, don’t just ignore them; reassess and rewrite them so that they will work!

When you set your goals you will need to see at a
glance when you plan on completing them and the results you achieve. If you have a template set up
so that you can not only see what the goal is, but the time for completion; then what the outcomes
were and any follow up you think you need, this will go a long way to ensuring that you actually do
reach your goals as you will become ‘goal orientated’.

Case Study on setting goals and
objectives
Peter O’Connor wanted to make 100
sales by the end of the month. This did not happen so he was despondent. He then decided that he
would break his goals up into a number of associated goals and made the time frame and expected
results more realistic. His associated goals were now to
* market his product to 1000 on his data base;
* market his product to 1000 unknown potential clients by encouraging
his data base to promote his product to their data base (he offered good incentives for
this);
* to make 10 sales in the following month.
His goals were met and he had grown his data base as well as made
sales. He was now energised and ready to consider another marketing strategy.

TIP
Plan to ‘give’ something away -
but you have to actually trade it for something valuable (i.e. names and email addresses). Your
primary marketing strategy should be to give something away for free - in fact all your marketing
should revolve around creating valuable information/ resources to give away. This builds your
credibility and trust so that a recipient is more likely to buy from you.
